LUCKNOW: No party is untouchable for Mayawati provided it can help defeat the Samajwadi Party (SP) and thus humiliate Mulayam Singh. Results of the recently concluded civic poll have conveyed the message far and wide.
In Etah, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supporters voted for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the nagar palika panchayat seat.
1x1 polls

As a result, the SP lost to BJP even in Gunnaur. In the nagar palika parishad poll in Mainpuri, SP could win merely two out of eight seats.
The BJP which had nominal presence in the district was a major gainer. This was possible only through the tacit help of BSP supporters.
This story was repeated in Kannauj which sends Akhilesh Singh Yadav to Parliament. In Kannauj nagar palika chief's poll, the SP again lost to BJP. Political analysts say this was made possible by the BSP which had openly declared its intention of defeating SP candidates.
In Bara Banki, even the presence of senior SP leader like Beni Prasad Verma failed ensure SP's victory. Party lost both the nagar palika parishad and nagar panchayat polls. Independents and BJP together won 10 seats.

In Azamgarh, the home town of Amar Singh, SP's performance was again dismal. Even Singh's presence could not turn the tide in party's favour. In the district, independents and BJP won many seats pushing the SP to the third position.
In Kanpur, the BJP won the mayoral poll only with BSP's help, said a party leader. In nagar palika parishad's six seats, five were won by independents, many of when were BSP men.
In Agra, Meerut and Aligarh, the BSP corporators openly worked to ensure defeat of SP nominees, unmindful of who wins ultimately.
This resulted in SP losing its strong support base. In Meerut, non-Muslim voters voted for the BJP and the BSP activists too were not way behind.
This paved the way for the victory of BJP in the mayoral poll.In Allahabad, the BSP silently backed the Congress and in Lucknow it rooted for the BJP.
